Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The results of the biodegradation studies on the structurally closely related Isodecyl methacrylate (i-C10-Ester) and 2 -Ethylhexyl methacrylate are considered as representative for the bioaccumulation of n-Decyl methacrylate (C10 -Ester).
A bioconcentration study study on the structural analogue 2-ethyl hexyl methacrylate according to OECD guideline 305 demonstrates that a rapid metabolism occurs, preventing any significant accumulation (BCF = 37).

Additional information

The octanol/water partition coefficient of the substance, log Kow > 4, predicts a potential for bioaccumulation. Simple models linking BCF to logKow would give BCF in the range of about > 1000 depending on the model and the logKow used . On the contrary, an experimental study (Fraunhofer, 2006) has been carried out on the structural analogue 2-ethyl hexyl methacrylate (log Kow > 4) to assess the fish bioconcentration of the substance, according to OECD guideline 305. This study demonstrates that a rapid metabolisation occurs, preventing any significant accumulation (BCF = 37).
