No data is available on the toxicity to birds for the test substance. Based on the available mammalian toxicity data and the hydrolytic instability of MDI, it is not deemed necessary to perform toxicity tests to birds.
The test substance is covered by the category approach of methylenediphenyl diisocyanates (MDI). Hence, data of the category substances can be used to cover this endpoint. Toxicity data in rats (REACH section 7.2) and dogs (REACH section 7.11) show no overt toxicity by the oral route. Oral pMDI to rats showed the LD50 to be in excess of 10,000 mg/kg body weight. Ingested MDI forms mainly solid, inert polyureas. There is no reason to suppose that MDI will show significant oral toxicity to birds. Additionally, due to the hydrolytic instability of MDI, MDI will not be available in the environment to bioaccumulate into birds. Therefore no tests are deemed necessary.
