- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- - The sample is closed up in a crucible made of aluminium with perforated lid and heated up in a DTA/DSC (heating rate 5 K/min).
- In comparison with an inert sample (empty crucible) the temperature difference and the heat effect are recorded.
- The boiling curve of the sample is a steep endothermic signal. - GLP compliance:

- Conclusions:
- No boiling point could be observed up to the decomposition of the test item. Exothermal decomposition starts at approx. 270 °C.
- Executive summary:
According to OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 103 (Boiling Point) which conforms with the EU Method A.2 (Boiling Temperature) no boiling point could be observed up to the decomposition of the test item at approx. 270°C.

- Executive summary:
Test Objective
To screen a sample of 2,2'-MDI (EC Number: 219-799-4) in order to determine the boiling point and / or the onset temperature and magnitude of any exothermic activity.
Test Procedure
A sample of 2,2'-MDI (EC Number: 219-799-4) was charged to an open aluminium DSC crucible which was then placed in the furnace. In the screening test the sample was then ramped from -50C to 500C at 10 K.min-1.
Test Results
Result : 284 - 340°C Boiling with decomposition
Referenceopen allclose all
From 10 °C up to 280 °C no boiling point could be observed. The decomposition if the test item starts before a boiling point could be observed.
Description of key information
No boiling point could be observed up to the decomposition of the test item.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Temperature of decomposition (state purity):
- 270 °C
Additional information
Exothermal decomposition starts at approx. 270 °C. A second key study reported a decomposition range at 284-340°C
