The hydrolisis of iron potassium oxide was determined as part of a general study on the physico-chemical properties of the substance which was performed in compliance with GLP. Due to the very low solubility of the test substance, the test could not be performed according to EC test guidelines. Therefore, samples of iron potassium oxide and the undissolved material from the end of a 144 hours water solubility test were analysed by Infra Red Spectroscopy (IR) to monitor for evidence of the theoretical hydrolysis of iron potassium oxide to iron (III) oxide. None of the peaks found in this screening could be attributed to the presence of iron (III) oxide. lt is therefore concluded that hydrolysis is unlikely to be a significant pathway for the breakdown of iron potassium oxide.
