Description of key information

In a GLP guideline study according to OECD 301 F Taurine showed to be readily biodegradable within the 28 day period of the study.

Some studies are waived in accordance with REACH.

-  A study on hydrolysis does not need to be conducted in accordance with REACH Annex VIII No. 9.2.2.1 column 2, if the substance is readily biodegradable.

- In accordance with REACH Annex VIII section 9.3.1. column 2 the study on adsorption/desorption screening (required in section 9.3.1. column 1) does not need to be conducted as the substance has a low log Kow as well as the substance and its degradation products decompose rapidly. Adsorption to solid soil phase is not expected. From the water surface Taurine will not evaporate into the atmosphere.
