Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Formulation

Registration/ Notification status for the use:
use registered according to REACH Article 10; total tonnage manufactured/imported >=10tonnes/year per registrant
Contributing activity / technique for the environment
Name of activity / technique:
Formulation of lubricating additives packages: Covers formulation of lubricant additives, lubricants and greases. Includes associated material transfers, mixing,
large and small scale packing, sampling, maintenance and associated laboratory activities (ERC 2)
Environmental release category (ERC):
ERC2: Formulation into mixture
Contributing activity / technique for workersopen allclose all
Name of activity / technique:
Raw materials reception, handling, and transfer for formulation: The substance is received and stored in drums. Drums are manually unloaded with hoses connected to the blenders at 25 to 50 °C. As there may be H2S released from the product while opening the drums, the operator wears respiratory protection or will utilize equivalent LEV to reduce exposure. This task occurs approximately once a month and only when the formulation of an additive package with this substance is needed (PROC 9)
Process category (PROC):
PROC 9: Transfer of substance or mixture into small containers (dedicated filling line, including weighing)
Name of activity / technique:
Formulation of additive package: The component and other lubricating additives are mixed together into a homogenous formulation and filtered. The resultant additive package is piped to storage tanks on the tank farm in an automated transfer operation or is loaded directly into a road or rail (bulk) tankers. Operation is managed from a control room limiting any potential for exposure (PROC 3)
Process category (PROC):
PROC 3: Manufacture or formulation in the chemical industry in closed batch processes with occasional controlled exposure or processes with equivalent containment conditions
Name of activity / technique:
Packaging as drumming: Packaging additive package (filling drums or occasionally IBCs for on-site storage) for transportation to client at ambient temperature. Manual sampling for laboratory analyses carried out during drumming. LEV is used (PROC 9)
Process category (PROC):
PROC 9: Transfer of substance or mixture into small containers (dedicated filling line, including weighing)
Name of activity / technique:
Packaging as loading: Packaging the additive package (loading into a road tanker) at ambient temperature for transportation to the client. Manual sampling for laboratory analyses is carried out during loading (PROC 8b)
Process category (PROC):
PROC 8b: Transfer of substance or mixture (charging and discharging) at dedicated facilities
Name of activity / technique:
Laboratory analysis: Instrumental chemical analyses and non-species specific testing e.g. viscosity. LEV is used during actual analysis (PROC 15)
Process category (PROC):
PROC 15: Use as laboratory reagent
Name of activity / technique:
Cleaning and maintenance: Cleaning and maintenance of premises and plant (for dedrumming, storage, warming, blending, filtering & packaging) as small scale routine, regular cleaning and maintenance. The equipment is flushed with lubricating oil that is absent of chemical additives before any operation on the equipment. This excludes large scale cleaning and maintenance work carried out by external contractors during outage/ shutdowns (PROC 28)
Process category (PROC):
PROC28: Manual maintenance (cleaning and repair) of machinery
Product category formulated:
PC 24: Lubricants, greases, release products
Substance supplied to that use in form of:
as such

The resultant finished lubricant is piped to storage tanks on the tank farm in an automated transfer operation or is packaged for distribution (PROCS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
Process category (PROC):
PROC 1: Chemical production or refinery in closed process without likelihood of exposure or processes with equivalent containment conditions
PROC 2: Chemical production or refinery in closed continuous process with occasional controlled exposure or processes with equivalent containment conditions
PROC 3: Manufacture or formulation in the chemical industry in closed batch processes with occasional controlled exposure or processes with equivalent containment conditions
PROC 4: Chemical production where opportunity for exposure arises
PROC 5: Mixing or blending in batch processes
Name of activity / technique:
Lubricating additive package reception, handling and re-packaging finished product: Covers reception of the product and transfer to the formulation step; Packaging the finished lubricant for bulk transfer (loading into a road tanker) at ambient temperature for transportation to the client (PROCs 8a, 8b)
Process category (PROC):
PROC 8a: Transfer of substance or mixture (charging and discharging) at non-dedicated facilities
PROC 8b: Transfer of substance or mixture (charging and discharging) at dedicated facilities
Name of activity / technique:
