Description of key information

The aquatic toxicity profile of benzene, tetrapropylene-, distn. residues, sulfonated, sodium salts (registered and read across target substance) was not determined by actual toxicity studies. Instead, read across source substances were used to predict the aquatic toxicity of the registered substance.

Short-term aquatic ecotoxicological data are available for aquatic invertebrates and algae. All data for short-term toxicity to invertebrates come from two study reports conducted using structurally similar analog chemicals according to OECD TG 202 or EPA OTS 797.1300. In each of these studies, the 48-hour Effective Loading Rate was equivalent to the highest concentrations tested. Aquatic algae studies were found for analog and structurally similar substances and were performed according to EPA OTS 797.1050 or OECD TG 201. In each of these studies, the 96-hour Effective Loading Rate was equivalent to the highest concentrations tested.
