- Hardness:
- The total hardness of the dilution water control (measured as CaCO3) was within the range 216.3 - 242.3mg/L throughout the duration of the test. The 0.56mg/L PCOC solution was measured on day 14 - 16 and was determined to have a total hardness as CaCO3 of 223.7 - 226.3 mg/L.

- The temperature of the test solutions was within the range 19.6 - 20.7 °C throughout the duration of the test.

- The LC50 was calculated on days 1,2,4,7,14 and 21, in all cases the LC50 was >0.56 mg/L.
The details on the results are summarised below.
- Mortality of parent animals: There were no mortalities in the dilution water control or in the nominal concentrations of 0.032, 0.056, 0.18 or 0.56mg/L PCOC after 21 days. A single mortality was observed in both the 0.1 and 0.32mg/L PCOC nominal concentrations after 12 and 14 days respectively. Both deaths were considered to be random as no other deaths were observed in these or in the higher 0.56mg/L nominal concentration.
- No. of offspring produced per day per female: In the dilution water control and nominal test concentrations up to and including 0.32mg/L all Po daphnia had released their first offspring on day 8 or 9, and had completed 4 or 5 broods by the end of the study, with the exception of those that were identified as male.
- Body length and weight of parent animals: Based on a statistical procedure, Wilcoxon's Rank Sum Test, the length of the daphnia was not significantly reduced in any of the treatments when compared to the control. - Results with reference substance (positive control):

- Conclusions:
- Based on the results from the study the LC50 was shown to be >0.56mg/L. The overall No Observed Effect Concentration was shown to be >=0.56mg/L.
- Executive summary:
The effects of PCOC on the reproduction of Daphnia magna over a 21 day period was studied in a Chronic Toxicity test performed to OECD Guideline 202 Part II. The PCOC sample tested was a 50:50%w/w combination of PCOC technical grade supplied by A H Marks and Co Limited and Nufarm UK Limited. The test medium was Elednt M4 medium.
Nominal concentrations of 0.032, 0.056, 0.1, 0.018, 0.32 and 0.56mg/L PCOC were used with a dilution water control. Ten replicates were performed at each concentration, each replicate containing a single daphnia. The test systems were held at 20 +/-1°C under 16 hours of light per day. The test solutions were renewed three times a week throughout the duration of the test.
The LC50values were calculated at various time intervals during the test period.
The mortalities and reproduction data were used to calculate the LC50, the length of the daphnia was recorded at the end of the test.
There were no mortalities in the dilution water control or in the nominal concentrations of 0.032, 0.056, 0.18 or 0.56mg/L PCOC after 21 days. A single mortality was observed in both the 0.1 and 0.32mg/L PCOC nominal concentrations after 12 and 14 days respectively.
