Summary of the aquatic toxicity end points.

End Point Organism Toxicity Reference
Acute tox. Aquatic invertebrates Daphnia Magna EC50 (48h,static)       1.0 mg/L BASF
Chronic Tox. Aquatic invertebrates Daphnia magna EC50 (48h,static)   >0.56 mg/L Brixham Environmental Laboraotry
Toxicity to Algae and Cyanobacteria Scenedesmus subspicatus      (Desmodesmus subspicatus) EbC50 (72h,static)    14.81mg/L BASF
Toxicity to Microorganisms Pseudomonas putida EC50(17h)       110mg/L BASF
Toxicity to Aquatic Plants  Lemna Minor  EC50 (7 day, biomass) 15.7 mg/L  Chemex Environmental International Limited

Additional toxicity data on other aquatic compartments is available in the published Danish Review document. Although the additional data is not a requirement for a transported isolated intermediate, the document is attached under section 13 for reference.

Based on the endpoint values summarised above the lowest acute value is for Daphnia magna. The value of 1.0 mg/L for the acute study places 4-chloro-2 -methylphenol in 'acute category 1' under GHS regulations and 'R50' category under DSD-DPD regulations. The threshold for both classifications being <= 1mg/L 48 hour EC50 (daphnia/crustacea).
