Description of key information
The effects of the structural analogue substance didecyldimethylammonium chloride (CAS 7173-51-5) on Soil Microbial Community were investigated in a 28d study carried out in compliance of OECD 216 and 217 guidelines. The EC50 was determined to be >1000 mg/kg soil dw.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Short-term EC50 for soil microorganisms:
- 1 000 mg/kg soil dw
Additional information
The effects of the structural analogue substance didecyldimethylammonium chloride (CAS 7173-51-5) on Soil Microbial Community were investigated in a 28d study carried out in compliance of OECD 216 and 217 guidelines. Carbon mineralization and nitrogen transformation was assessed on day 5 and 28 in two soil types (sandy loam and low humic content sand soils) treated with 0, 10, 100, 1000 μg/g dw soil (nominal concentrations). Statistical analysis showed no significant effect on nitrate, nitrite, ammonium formation rates, CO2 formation rate in the treated samples after 28 days in the two soils. The highest inhibition recorded was 24.8% in the nitrate formation after 5 day at the highest treatment in the sandy loam soil. After 28d effects were <25% inhibition. According to criteria in OPPTS and OECD guidelines, it is concluded that the read across substance has low potential to adversely affect the soil microbial functions and no long term effect. Therefore the EC50 can be expressed as > 1000 mg/kg dw soil.
