Details on test animals or test system and environmental conditions:
ANIMALS:
Five male and five female Wistar derived albino rats, weighing between 200-300g, from Royalhart Farms.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
During the test period the animals were individually housed in stainless steel wire bottomed cages in an environmentally controlled room with a
12 hour Iight/dark cycle. Feed (Fisher Rat Pellets) and water were provided ad-Iibitum after dosing.

Administration / exposure

Vehicle:
air
Details on inhalation exposure:
During the first 30 minutes the test material (1.9 g total) was nebulized into the inhalation chamber after being warmed in a vesseI submerged in water at 35-37°C. The water bath temperature was decreased to 25°C during the remainder (30 minutes) of the exposure period.

Results and discussion

Effect levels
Sex:
male/female
Dose descriptor:
LC50
Effect level:
< 21.22 mg/L air (nominal)
Based on:
test mat.
Exp. duration:
1 h
Mortality:
Total mortality was 70 %. All mortalities occurred within 4 days post dose.
Clinical signs:
other: During the exposure period the rats were extremely irritable and showed signs of severe respiratory stress, eye irritation and skin irritation. Several animals also suffered nasal and ocular bleeding during the exposure period.
Body weight:
see " Any other information on results"
Gross pathology:
Gross necropsies were performed on all mortalities. Pulmonary hemorrhage, intestinal hemorrhage and/or splenic hemorrhage were observed in all pathological examinations.
