Hydrolysis

According to structural properties, hydrolysis of 2-aminoethanol is not expected. In addition, the substance is readily biodegradable.

Photodegradation

After evaporation or exposure to the air, the product will be rapidly degraded by photochemical processes (T1/2 < 24 h).

Biodegradation

The substance is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.

In accordance with column 2 of Annex IX, section 9.2.1.2 -9.2.1.4, the simulation testing in surface water, soil or sediment is not required as 2 -aminoethanol is readily biodegradable.

Bioaccumulation

Significant accumulation of the substance is not to be expected.

No studies are available for the bioaccumulation assessment of the substance. According to Regulation (EC) 1907 (2006) Annex IX, Section 9.3.2, Column 2, a study on bioaccumulation does not need to be conducted as the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation. The substance has an experimentally determined log Kow of -2.3 (Sasol GmbH, 2009). In addition, the BCF was estimated using several QSAR models. The resulting valid BCF values were all very low (BCF 0.75-9.2). Regarding these values, significant accumulation of the test substance in organisms is not to be expected. Therefore, and for reasons of animal welfare, a study on bioaccumulation is not provided.

Adsorption / desorption

Adsorption of the substance to the solid soil phase is not expected under environmentally relevant conditions.

Henry's Law constant

From the water surface the substance will not evaporate into the atmosphere under environmentally relevant conditions.

Environmental distribution

Over time, the uncharged substance will preferentially distribute into the compartment water (99.9%). At environmentally conditions the substance will be ionized (pKa = 9.25 at 25 °C, experimental data); therefore, the distribution into the compartment water seems to be appropriate.
