Description of key information

Boiling point of titanium oxychloride cannot be established as it is technically not possible to conduct this study on a substance which is a reactive chemical intermediate, only stable in aqueous solution at low pH. However the data available uniformly indicate substance decomposition.

In accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted because it is technically not possible to conduct it as the substance is a reactive chemical intermediate which is only stable in aqueous solution at low pH. In addition to the Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the boiling point study (required in Section 7.3) does not need to be conducted as the substance decomposes without boiling.

As target compound titanium oxychoride only can get stabilised in aqueous solution in coexistence with hydrochloric acid, any boiling point data would refer to a mixture of these three substances, whose percentage on the whole mixture varies from case to case. This is also reflected by the variation of boiling point data reported by two company MSDS.

In this case for the data taken from two MSDS a Klimisch 4 rating was assigned only. The MSDS uniformly report decomposition of the substance, however the exact decomposition temperature of target substance titanium oxychlordie itself is hard to establish for the reasons stated above. The values reported are varying between "decomposition at > 35°C" and "decomposition at ca. 50 °C".
