Key value for chemical safety assessment

Effects on fertility

Effect on fertility: via oral route
Dose descriptor:
NOAEL
1 000 mg/kg bw/day
Additional information

The reproductive / developmental toxicity of strontium ferrite was investigated in a screening study according to OECD guideline 421.

No adverse effects were observed.

Short description of key information:
Strontium ferrite does not produce reproductive / developmental toxicity.

Effects on developmental toxicity

Description of key information
Strontium ferrite did not show any evidence of toxicity seen in any of the tests available. Consequently strontium ferrite is a "substance of low toxicological activity" (wording of Annexes IX and X No. 8.7 column 2 REACH).
The study on toxicokinetic behaviour proved that no systemic absorption occurs via relevant routes of expoure.
Therefore, in accordance with Annex IX 8.7 column 2 (toxicokonetic data) and Annex X 8.7 column 2 (toxicokonetic data) and because of reasons of animal welfare, no study on toxicity to reproduction is performed.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Strontium ferrite does not produce reproductive / developmental toxicity. Hence, classification concerning this endpoint is not warranted.
