Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

On the basis of the toxicity control flask for the biodegradation study, the 28 day NOEC was 23 mg/L. The reported 5 minute EC50 was >1000 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
23 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity to aquatic micro-organisms results have been taken from the toxicity control flask for the biodegradation study (Hydrotox 2004). The reference substance reached 43.8% biodegradation in 14 days and 56.2% biodegradation in 28 days indicating that 2,4,4 -trimethylpentene is not inhibitory to micro-organisms at concentrations up to 23 mg/L.

The study by Harlan Laboratories Ltd. (2008) is GLP compliant and is a near guideline study. The specific nitrification rate was higher than specified in the test guidelines, due to the shorter than guideline test period. However, the results of ammonium analyses conducted showed that there was an excess of ammonium present at termination of the test and the results of the nitrite and nitrate analyses were comparable to results obtained in previous studies. It was therefore considered that the high specific nitrification rate had no adverse effect on the outcome of the study.
