The test item was a grey powder. Whilst heating, the sample showed a sharp temperature rise, reaching a temperature of 400 °C at an oven temperature of 263 °C.

On completion of the test, the cube was observed to be badly damaged and disintegrated, leaving a pile of white solid on the base of the cube stand.

Conclusions:
Under the conditions of this study, the test material has been determined to have a relative self-ignition temperature of 263 °C.

The relative self-ignition temperature of the test material was investigated in a study conducted in accordance with the standardised guideline EU Method A.16 and in line with GLP. The study was performed with tantalum powder. The study was therefore assigned a reliability score in line with the principles for assessing data quality as described in Klimisch (1997). The relative self ignition temperature of tantalum was determined to be 263 °C.
