Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT Assessment for 1,2,3-Propanetriol, homopolymer (CAS 25618-55-7) is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2012a).

Persistence

Based on the available data the test substance is readily biodegradable. Thus, the test substance is not considered to be P or vP.

Bioaccumulation

Based on its ready biodegradability and very low log Kow of -2, the substance is considered to have a very low bioaccumulation potential and therefore does not meet the Bioaccumulative (B) or very Bioaccumulative (vB) criterion.

Toxicity

1,2,3-Propanetriol, homopolymer (CAS 25618-55-7) is considered as not toxic. The substance is not acutely toxic to aquatic organisms. A chronic toxicity is not expected since the substance is not persistent and has a low potential for bioaccumulation. Furthermore the substance is not classified for specific target organ toxicity, carcinogenicity, mutagenicity or reproductive and developmental toxicity in mammals (see section 5.9). The criteria for “T” based on mammalian effects are therefore not met. Thus, the criteria set out in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 are not met and the substance is considered to be not T.
