Description of key information

The surface tension range of Hydrocarbons, C6-C7, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, cyclics, <5% n-hexane is 19 to 23 mN/m at 25 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Wilhelmy plate method is used to measure the surface tension using a standardized plate with a plate tensiometer. A range of 19 to 23 mN/m at 25 °C covers all possible grades within this substance description if measured with the agreed method. Using this method ExxonMobil Chemical (2010) determined the surface tension to be 20.9 mN/m at 25 °C, demonstrating that the measured value falls within borderline values.
