The test substance, 4,4'-Isopropylidenediphenol, oligomeric reaction products with 1-chloro-2,3-epoxypropane, reaction products with fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, was accessed for its toxicity to fish, Daphnia and algae in GLP, O.E.C.D. test guideline studies. In the fish study the reported 96 hr LC50 was > 100 mg/L. The 48 hr EC50 value for Daphnia was also >100 mg/L (loading rate). An O.E.C.D. 201 72 hr algae study reported a nominal IC50 value of > 160 mg/L. Therefore, the test substance is not toxic to aquatic organisms. The EC50/LC50 value of 100 mg/L (loading rate) for two different aquatic species is the most appropriate value for derivation of aquatic PNECs.

The test substance, 4,4'-Isopropylidenediphenol, oligomeric reaction products with 1-chloro-2,3-epoxypropane, reaction products with fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers was reported to have an IC50 value of > 1000 mg/L for activated sewage sludge in an O.E.C.D. test guideline 209 study. Therefore, the test substance is not anticipated to have an adverse effect upon sewage sludge in waste-water treatment plants.
