Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The boiling point of the xylene isomers and ethylbenzene range from 136.2-144.5˚C at 1013 hPa. The boiling point of m-xylene is reported as 139.1˚C, for o-xylene as 144.5˚C, for p-xylene it is 138.4˚C and for ethylbenzene it is 136.2 °C. The mean boiling point is 139.6˚C and this value will be used for the risk assessment.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Boiling point at 101 325 Pa:
139.6 °C

Additional information

Data were taken from the CRC Handbook (Lide, 2008), which is a peer reviewed handbook and so can be considered reliable and suitable for use for this endpoint. The data are supported by results from the Merck Handbook (O'Neil 2006), with m-xylene, o-xylene, p-xylene and ethylbenzene having boiling points of 139.3°C, 144°C, 137 - 138°C and 136.25°C respectively.
