Description of key information

The melting point of the xylene isomers and ethylbenzene range from -94.96 to 13.2˚C at 1013hPa. The melting point of m- xylene is -47.9 ˚C, for o- xylene it is -25.5˚C, for p-xylene it is 13.2˚C, and for ethylbenzene it is -94.96°C. The mean value of -39.3˚C will be used for the risk assessment.

The CRC Handbook (Lide, 2008) is a peer reviewed handbook and so can be considered reliable and suitable for use for this endpoint. The data are supported by the results from the Merck Handbook (O'Neil 2006), with m-xylene, o-xylene, p-xylene and ethylbenzene having melting points of -47.4°C, -25°C, 13 -14°C and -94.96°C respectively.
