Based on data from two indpendent experiments of the the structural related substance 1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters the substance can be considered to be inherently biodegradable.

The biodegradation of 1,2,4 -benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed dodecyl and octyl triesters was not specifically determined. However, data are available for a structurally related material (1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid, decyl octyl ester), the only difference being the presence of esters with shorter alkyl chains (C10 instead of C12). Data from two independent studies demonstrate that the substance biodegrades in the aquatic environment, although does not fulfill the criteria for ready biodegradation. The biodegradation is above 70% after an extended testing period of about 40 days. The substance therefore can be considered to be inherently biodegradable.
