Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The acute toxicity of 1,2,4 -benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed dodecyl and octyl triesters towards aquatic species was determined in fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae. No significant effects were reported in any organism at the limit of solubility.

An OECD 211 Daphnia reproduction study is also available for 1,2,4 -benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed dodecyl and octyl triesters which also showed no significant effects on survival, reproduction and growth at the limit of solubility. A supporting 14-day study on the effect of the test substance to fish also showed no significant effects at the limit of solubility.

No key data is available for the substance on the chronic toxicity to fish but data are available for the structurally similar read-across substance 1,2,4 -benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters. The only difference between the two substances is the presence of esters with a shorter alkyl chain (C10 instead of C12). The available information demonstrates a lack of toxic effects in the range of the water solubility, which for the shorter chain esters should even be slightly higher than for the submission substance.

It has therefore been concluded that there is no evidence that this substance is toxic to aquatic organisms at any trophic level.
