Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Based on the ECHA draft decision the PNEC freshwater, marine water, sediment fresh water and sediment marine water were calculated based on the acute data of tBA itself using the high assessment factors. Nevertheless the resulting PNEC values are very comparable by using as basis the acrylate category and the appropriate lower assessment factors. This also indicates a very homogenous behaviour of the acrylates in the environment. PNECs based on the acrylate category: Freshwater: 0.00272 mg/L; Marine water: 0.000272 mg/L; Sediment freshwater: 0.0169 mg/kg sediment dw; Sediment marine water: 0.00169, since the ecotoxicity profile of the acrylates is very similar.

Conclusion on classification

Short-term aquatic toxicity data are available for three trophic levels (fish, aquatic invertebrates, and algae). The lowest observed acute effect concentration is a 96-h LC50 value of 2.37 mg/L as derived from a study with fish (Leuciscus idus). Long-term aquatic toxicity data are available from read-across substances ethyl acrylate and n-butyl acrylate from studies with daphnids in which 21-d NOEC values of 0.19 and 0.136 mg/L were derived, respectively. The substance is qualified as not readily biodegradable. The log Kow value is determined at <4 (no experimentally determined BCF value is available). Based on all this information, the substance needs to be classified as Aquatic Acute Category 2, H401 (Toxic to aquatic life) and Aquatic Chronic Category 2, H411 (Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects).
