Description of key information

Reaction mass of cerium dioxide and lanthanum oxide and lanthanum fluoride is non explosive.
Data on constituents:
CeO2: Non explosive,
La2O3: Non explosive,
LaF3: No experimental data, but should not show any explosive properties based on chemical structure.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

A GLP-compliant study of reliability 1 according to Klimisch was available on the reaction mass (Demangel, 2010) revealing it has no explosive properties. This data was flagged as a key study.

A similar conclusion was drawn from experimental data of reliability 2 (Cerutti, 2005a, b) on cerium dioxide and lanthanum oxide. For lanthanum fluoride, an analysis of the chemical structure shows there is no group associated to explosive properties.

All these data on the three constituents were thus selected as supporting studies.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the above data, reaction mass of cerium dioxide and lanthanum oxide and lanthanum fluoride does not require a classification regarding its explosive properties, neither under DSD, nor under CLP.
