Description of key information

The water solubility of reaction mass of cerium dioxide and lanthanum oxide and lanthanum fluoride was determined to be 2.23 µg/L at 20 °C.
Data on constituents:
CeO2: < 0.123 µg/L,
La2O3: 69.6 µg/L,
LaF3: 2.35 to 2.96 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A GLP-compliant study of reliability 1 according to Klimisch was available on the reaction mass (Weissenfeld, 2008) and revealed a very low water solubility (2.23 µg/L). It was flagged as a key study.

Experimental data, scored as Klimisch 2 (Weissenfeld, 2007a, b) indicate a water solubility of <0.123 µg/L and 69.6 µg/L for cerium dioxide and lanthanum oxide, respectively. Literature information, scored as Klimisch 4 (three sources), are also available for cerium dioxide and indicate consistently this compound to be not soluble in water. Based on the available data of reliability 2, lanthanum fluoride is slightly more soluble with a range of values from 2.35 to 2.96 mg/L.

All these data on the three constituents were thus selected as supporting studies.
