Description of key information

Boiling point was waived based on a high melting point value of reaction mass of cerium dioxide and lanthanum oxide and lanthanum fluoride (> 500 °C).
Data on constituents:
CeO2: >400°C,
La2O3: > 400°C,
LaF3: 2327°C.

Additional information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the boiling point study does not need to be performed for solid substances showing a melting point superior to 300°C. And, the melting point of reaction mass of cerium dioxide and lanthanum oxide and lanthanum fluoride is superior to 500°C (Défitraces study N°10-918025-011, 2010).

Two experimental studies, scored as Klimisch 2, are however available for two of the constituents of the reaction mass, and confirmed that cerium dioxide and lanthanum oxide do not boil up to 400 °C (Weissenfeld M., 2006a, b). The experimental result on lanthanum oxide is further supported by handbooks, scored as Klimisch 2, reporting consistently high boiling point values (4200 °C). An handbook data, scored as Klimisch 2 (Pascal et al., 1956), also indicates a boiling point of 2327 °C for lanthanum fluoride.

All these data on the three constituents were selected as supporting studies.
