Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

By analogy with one of its constituent (i.e. cerium dioxide), reaction mass of cerium dioxide and lanthanum oxide and lanthanum fluoride should not show any adverse effect on aquatic micro-organisms.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No data is available on the reaction mass. Based on the physico-chemical, environmental and ecotoxicological data available on both the reaction mass and its constituents, the substances show highly similar intrinsic properties. Therefore, a read-across with constituents when data are not available on the reaction mass appears fully relevant. A reliable experimental test on aquatic micro-organisms, scored as Klimisch 2 and flagged as a key study, is available for cerium dioxide (Grutzner, 2006); revealing no adverse effect. Another study of reliability 2 was also available on cerium dioxide (Park et et al., 2007a) and give consistent results. It was thus selected as a supporting study. These results can be used to conclude on the toxicity of reaction mass of cerium dioxide and lanthanum oxide and lanthanum fluoride to aquatic micro-organisms without launching further tests.
