Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, section 7.11., this study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.

Lactide does not contain any reactive groups as recognized in Bretherick, Handbook of Reactive Chemicals, Butterworth, London, 1979. Its oxygen balance is -133. Its heat of formation is -167.1 kcal/mol (MOPAC). Therefore it is extremely unlikely that lactide can undergo explosive decomposition reactions.
