Description of key information

Lactic acid is practically non-toxic to algae, with an ErC50 of 3500 mg/L and an NOEC of 1900 mg/L (nominal). Since dilactide undergoes immediate hydrolysis in contact with water, forming lactic acid, this is the moiety of interest by read-across.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
2 800 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
1 900 mg/L
