Description of key information

Based on its hydrolysis product TFA, the substance TFAH is not considered to be a surface-active agent, according to EC criteria.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
72.5
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
1 000

Additional information

As TFAH readily decomposes, the study is technically not feasible. Data on the hydrolysis product TFA, which is the actual species present in the environment, is considered to be relevant.

A fully reliable GLP study was conducted at the maximum testing concentration of 1 g/L, showing no lowering of the surface tension of water.

A supporting publication indicates that fluorinated compounds exhibit low surface tension; however, as it is only a qualitative information, it may apply to higher concentrations than required for testing.
