Description of key information

Reactive Orange 035 was tested on all three trophic levels of aquatic ecosystems. In the short-term fish toxicity study, 48h LC50 of FAT 40075/A to rainbow trout (Onchorhyncus mykiss) was found to be 450 mg/L (i.e. ca. 335 mg a.i./L). In the acute toxicity study to Daphnia magna conducted according to OECD Guideline 202 and in accordance with GLP. According to the results of the test, the EC50 (48 h) for immobilisation was determined to be >100 mg/L (nominal). The corresponding NOEC (48 h) was 100 mg/L (nominal). In an OECD 221 study with Lemna gibba, the nominal EC50-value for yield of frond numbers, growth rate of frond numbers and growth rate of dry weight was determined to be >100 mg/L. In addition to this, Reactive Orange 035 was assessed for toxicity to microbial population, where the IC50 to activated sludge was found to be greater than 300 mg/L. Based on above studies, FAT 40075 can be considered as having low toxicity to aquatic organisms.
