Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

There are no experimental data available on the Leucophor 1111X, thus a read across approach with structural analogous substances Stilbene Fluorescent Whitening Agents has been proposed.

The acute toxicity of the analogous substance 01 to zebra fish (Brachydanio rerio) was determined in a 96-hour semi-static test with a daily test medium renewal, according to the OECD Guideline 203. The only concentration tested was nominal 100 mg/l and a control. Since the test item is light sensitive, a semi-static test was performed as far as possible in the dark. ln the analyzed test medium samples from the start and the end of the test medium renewal periods the average measured test item concentrations ranged between 105 and 120 % of the nominal value. ln the control and at the test concentration of 100 mg/l no mortality or other visible abnormalities were determined at the test fish during the test period of 96 hours (Seyfried, 2006).

Further data on structural analogous substances are available on acute toxicity on Oncorhynchus mykiss and Pimephales promelas; the study outcomes confirm that the Stilbene Fluorescent Whitening Agents investigated are not acutely harmful/toxic to fish.

All the substances used in a read across approach are Stilbene derivatives Fluorescent Whitening Agents salts. They display similar structural and physicochemical properties: all of them exhibit high degree of dissociation in water and very low octanol/water partition coefficients because to a higher affinity with water phase than the octanol one. They are all very soluble in water, due to the presence of sulphonated groups in the molecules; all of them are non readily biodegradable and are expected to undergo to the same environmental fate.

The read across approach can be considered as reliable and representative; the differences occurring in the structure formulas (i.e. substituents) are expected to not significantly impact the short-term toxicity to fish.

Further details about the justification for read across approach are given in the report attached to the Section 13 of this dossier.
