Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The long-term toxicity to fish of the read across substance didecyldimethylammonium chloride (CAS 7173 -51 -5) was determined in the OECD guideline 210 and GLP study. The NOEC was determined to be 32 µg/L.

Additional information

A read across approach was applied for short-term toxicity to algae using data of didecyldimethylammonium chloride (CAS 7173 -51 -5) as this substance was considered to show similar ecotoxicological properties as compared to the test substance.

A 34d Early life stage test on Brachydanio rerio is available as read across data with didecyldimethylammonium chloride (CAS 7173 -51 -5). The test was carried out according to OECD Guideline No. 210 and under GLP conditions using the read across substance in 51.4 % aqueous solution and as radiolabelled 14C substance under intermittent flow-through conditions. Four replicates of 20 eggs/larvae were dosed per concentration. Nominal test concentrations were 0, 1.0, 3.2, 10, 32, 100 and 320 (active ingredient) µg /L and the results of their analytical check permitted to express the results in terms of nominal concentrations. All fish died at a test substance concentration of 320 µg /L. The test substance did not affect body length, but body weight increased at 100 µg/L. In conclusion the read across substance showed a LC50 value of 81 µg/L (active ingredient). The NOEC was determined to be 32 µg /L (active ingredient). No metabolites were formed during the test.
