First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures
General information:
Take off immediately all contaminated clothes including shoes. IF exposed or concerned: Get medical advice/ attention.

In case of inhalation :
TOXIC. IF INHALED: Remove person to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing. Keep warm at rest. Oxygen or artificial respiration if necessary. Call a POISON CENTER or a doctor. Put under medical supervision. In case of disorders: get to hospital urgently.

In case of skin contact :
TOXIC, IRRITANT. IF ON SKIN: Wash with plenty of water. Take off immediately contaminated clothes and wash it before reuse. Call a POISON CENTER or doctor if you feel unwell. If skin irritation or rash occurs: Get medical advice/attention. In case of disorders: get to hospital.

In case of eye contact :
IRRITANT. IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for least 15 minutes including under the eyelids. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Don’t let the contaminated water flow enter the non-contaminated eye. If eye irritation persists (redness, pain): Get medical advice/ attention.

In case of ingestion :
TOXIC. IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor. Do NOT induce vomiting. Rinse mouth with water (only if the person is conscious). Do not give anything to eat or drink. Get to hospital urgently.

Protection for rescuers :
For any intervention, protect yourself from direct contact with the product or its vapors.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
If exposed to low concentrations/amounts: Skin dryness. Redness and pain if on skin or eye. Irritating to the respiratory mucosa (itches, cough). Headache, Nausea, Drowsiness. Gastric / intestinal disorders.
If exposed to high concentrations/amounts: CNS depression, Unconsciousness, Cardiac rhythm disorders, Neurological disorders. Adverse effects on liver (cytolysis) and kidney (tubular necrosis). Pulmonary oedema. Possible burns of the cornea.
Chronic Exposure:
May cause cancer (liver tumors).

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
Treatment: Do NOT administer catecholamines (because of cardiac sensitization caused by the product).
TOXIC: Safety shower recommended at the workplace.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing media: Carbon dioxide (CO2), foam, dry powder, water mist.
Unsuitable extinguishing media: High flow water jet.

Special hazard arising from the substance or mixture
In use, may form flammable / explosive vapour-air mixture.
Thermal decomposition into toxic and corrosive products: gaseous hydrogen chloride, Phosgene.

Advice for firefighters
Specific methods of intervention:
In case of fire in the vicinity, remove containers exposed to fire. Remove any source of sparks and ignition - Do not smoke. Air / vapour mixtures are explosive upon strong heating. Closed containers can be cooled by water spray. Collect the contaminated extinguishing water separately, do not discharge it into the drains. Fire residues and contaminated extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.
Special actions for the protection of firefighters :
In case of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Protective full suit against chemicals

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures :
TOXIC. Evacuate personnel not required or not equipped with personal protection. Provide adequate ventilation. Wear an air hood or self-contained breathing apparatus in a polluted area. Protective full suit against chemicals. Avoid all contact with skin, eyes and inhalation of vapour. Remove any source of sparks and ignition - Do not smoke. Wash thoroughly after intervention and wash contaminated clothing.

Precautions for the protection of the environment:
HARMFUL. Do not release in the environment. Do not let product enter drains. Dock with sand or earth (do not use combustible products). Notify the appropriate authorities when the situation can not be controlled quickly and effectively, or if the product contaminates the natural environment.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:
Recovery: Pump into an inert rescue tank. Collect in suitable containers for disposal. Absorb residues with an inert absorbent. For small amounts, remove with an inert absorbent (Vermiculite, clean sand).
Disposal: Dispose of the product by incineration (in accordance with local and national regulations). Provide a smoke neutralization system.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling
Technical measures / Precautions:
Storage and Handling Requirements for Products: Liquids. Flammable. Explosive vapours in air. Toxic. Irritants. Dangerous for the environment.
The product is very dangerous even below the amounts detectable by smell. Provide ventilation and appropriate equipment evacuation. Provide safety showers, eye fountains. Provide self-contained breathing apparatus nearby. Provide water station nearby. Provide fire blanket nearby. Provide grounding equipment.

Precautions for safe handling:
Open the barrels carefully, the contents may be under pressure. Handle avoiding spatter and release of vapours. Avoid the accumulation of electrostatic charges. Ban air transfers. Prohibit air for drying facilities. Handle away from any flames. Use only explosion-proof equipment. In the event of intervention on the storages: ventilate the vats and the empty tanks well before intervention inside. Atmosphere control to be performed periodically.
Hygiene measures:
Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Avoid all contact with skin, eyes and do not breathe dust / fume / gas / mist / vapors / spray. Do not eat, drink or smoke while using.
Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering a food service area. Wash clothes after use. Contaminated work clothes should not leave the workplace.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Keep tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Store in a locked place. Keep away from heat and sources of ignition. No smoking. Protect from light. Store away from moisture. Provide for grounding and electrical safety equipment. Provide a retention basin. Provide impermeable floor.
Incompatible products:
Acids, Bases, Oxygen, Oxidizers (may form explosive or shock-sensitive compounds), Finely divided metals, Aluminum, Magnesium, Zinc, Titanium (explosion hazard).

Packing material
Recommended: Ordinary steel, galvanized, tinned, stainless steel or covered with a special coating.
For small quantities, tinted glass can be used.
To be avoided: Light metals (eg aluminum) and alloys in the presence of moisture, including those parts of the installation in contact with the product. Plastics.

Exposure controls / personal protection

General protection measures:
Provide for adequate ventilation and evacuation at the equipment level. Use high integrity equipment for loading / unloading. Routine monitoring and inspections to detect leaks and reduce fugitive release. Frequently check working atmospheres.
Wear protective gloves / protective clothing / eye protection / face protection.
Restrict the quantities of product present at the workplace to the minimum necessary for immediate work.
Obtain special instructions before use. Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood.

Personal protective equipment :
Respiratory protection: TOXIC. Low concentrations or short exposure: full face mask (respiratory protection in accordance with EN 14387 standard). Recommended Filter Type: AXB2.
High concentrations or prolonged exposure: Insulating Breathing Apparatus.

Hand protection : TOXIC, IRRITANT, SENSITIZER. Intermittent and prolonged splash contacts: Solvent resistant gloves made of fluoroelastomer, PVA, nitrile, polychloroprene (complying with EN 374).
Use a removal technique to avoid touching the outer surface if contaminated.

Eye / face protection: IRRITANT. Safety glasses (complying with EN 166, protection level 3).

Skin and body protection: TOXIC, IRRITANT, SENSITIZER. At the workplace: Combination with delayed penetration, Safety shoes.
In incident response: Waterproof suit (multilayer polyethylene), Nitrile rubber boots (complying with EN 13832-3).
