Description of key information

Toxicity of dineodymium tricarbonate was approximated using data available for the closely related compound, dicerium tricarbonate. The 96hr LC 50 for rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) exposed to dicerium tricarbonate was determined to be greater than 100 mg/L.

The toxicity of a closely related compound, dicerium tricarboante, was utilized to estimate the toxicity of dineodymium tricarbonate to freshwater fish.

The 96 -hour acute toxicity of dicerium tricarbonate to rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) was determined in a semi-static test (daily test medium renewal) according to the EU Commission Directive 92/69/EEC, Part C.1 (1992), and the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 203 (1992).

Fish were exposed to control and dicerium tricarbonate at a loading rate of 100 mg/L for 96h. No mortality or other visible abnormalities were observed during the test (fish were observed daily). Consequently, the 96-hour NOELR and the 96-hour LL50 of dicerium tricarbonate to rainbow trout were thus determined to be > 100 mg/L (measured test item concentration of 5.6 µg/L).

In conclusion, dicerium tricarbonate had no acute toxic effects on rainbow trout up to the solubility limit in the test water, at the loading rate of 100 mg/L. Dineodymium tricarbonate is likely to exhibit the same toxicity toward rainbow trout.
