Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing media: Sand, Cement, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Dry powder
Unsuitable extinguishing media: Water & Foam
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
Specific hazards during fire fighting: The product reacts with water and generates heat.
Warning: water promotes the spread of fire.
5.3 Advice for firefighters
Further information: Cool containers / tanks with water spray. Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations. The fire figthing measures are determined by the isopropyl-alcohol formed by hydrolytic decomposition.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Personal precautions: Avoid dust formation.
Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.
Environmental precautions
Environmental precautions: Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system.
Do not allow material to contaminate ground water system.
Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up
Methods for cleaning up: Protect against water. Avoid dust formation. Sweep up or vacuum up spillage and collect in suitable container for disposal.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Personal protective equipment
Respiratory protection: No personal respiratory protective equipment normally required. In inadequately ventilated areas, where workplace limits are
exceeded, where unpleasant odours exist or where aerosols are in use, or smoke and mist occur, use self-contained breathing apparatus or breathing apparatus with a combined filter (e.g. A-P2 or ABEK-P2), in compliance with EN 141.
Hand protection: The choice of an appropriate glove does not only depend on its material but also on other quality features and is different from one producer to the other., Please observe the instructions regarding permeability and breakthrough time which are provided by the supplier of the gloves. Also take into consideration the specific local conditions under which the product is used, such as the danger of cuts, abrasion, and the contact time., Be aware that in daily use the durability of a chemical resistant protective glove can be notably shorter than the break through time measured according to EN 374, due to the numerous outside influences (e.g. temperature).
gloves suitable for permanent contact:
Material: Nitrile rubber/nitrile latex
Break through time: >= 480 min
Material thickness: 0.35 mm

Material: butyl-rubber
Break through time: >= 480 min
Material thickness: 0.5 mm

gloves suitable for splash protection:
Material: Polychloroprene
Break through time: >= 240 min
Material thickness: 0.5 mm

unsuitable gloves
Material: Natural rubber/natural latex, Polyvinylchloride

Eye protection: Tightly fitting safety goggles
Hygiene measures: Take off all contaminated clothing immediately. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing.

Protective measures: Do not breathe dust. Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes.

Environmental exposure controls
General advice: Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system. Do not allow material to contaminate ground water system.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity
Isopropyl alcohol and aluminium hydroxide are produced in an exothermic reaction by adding water.
Chemical stability
Decomposes when moist.
Possibility of hazardous reactions
Hazardous reactions: hydrolysis
Conditions to avoid
Conditions to avoid: Exposure to moisture. Heat, flames and sparks.
Incompatible materials
Materials to avoid: Steam
Hazardous decomposition products
Hazardous decomposition products: Alcohols

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods
Product: Following pre-treatment and observing the regulations for hazardous wastes, it must be taken to a permitted hazardous wastes landfill or hazardous wastes incinerator.
Contaminated packaging: Packaging that cannot be cleaned must be disposed of in the same way as the material itself.
