Additional information

Substance is a gas and is extremely unlikely to reside in the aquatic or terrestrial compartment. Deriving a PNEC for a gas is unreasonable and technically of little use for risk assessment as the substance will not be present in the aquatic or terrestrial environment.

Conclusion on classification

The lowest acute result was a 48 hr EC50 for aquatic invertebrates of 7.3mg/L. A Kow of 1.99 for 1,3 butadiene (considered suitable for read across to 1,2 butadiene) indicates the potential for bioaccumulation to be low. Measured data are not available to demonstrate that 1,2 butadiene is readily biodegradable, but QSAR estimates indicate that biodegradation is expected to be rapid. In addition, 1,2 butadiene is expected to partition to the air from water, further reducing the potential for exposure.

Taken together with the acute toxicity results, these results do not support any classification for acute or chronic hazard to the environment under the DSD or CLP Regulations.
