Description of key information

Acid Yellow 079 is an orange powder, solid at 20 °C. The test substance did not melt or boil until 350 °C. But about 290 °C the test substance begins to decompose. Average relative density of test substance at 20 °C was found to be1.2533 g/cm³. The median particle size data of test substance was found to be 26.921 µm. The partition coefficient n-octanol/water at 20 °C was determined to: Pow = 0.00203, Log Pow = -2.69. The water solubility at 20 °C was determined to (without correction for the purity): 106 g/l. The surface tension of Acid Yellow 079 was determined to be 55.456 mN/m at 20 °C. No auto-ignition for the test substance was observed up to 550 °C. Acid Yellow 079 is considered as not highly flammable. The analysis of the chemical structure reveals no alerts for explosive properties. The calculated chemical oxygen balance is above the trigger value of -200, but the determination of the exothermic decomposition energy demonstrated an energy release below the critical value of 500 J/g. Therefore, the substance is considered to be non-explosive according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and no further testing are required. In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, this study does not need to be conducted as this substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials on the basis of its chemical structure.
