Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

Inhalation: move exposed person to fresh air. In case of indisposition seek medical advice. Eyes: rinse with plenty of water. If irritation occurs, seek medical advice. Skin: wash with soap and water. Ingestion: symptomatic treatment. In case of indisposition seek medical advice.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: water, dry powder, foam, carbon dioxide. Product arising from burning: combustion products may contain carbon, nitrogen and sulfur oxides, together with hydrogen chloride gas. Protective equipment: wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: wear protective clothing (dust mask, safety goggles and impermeable gloves). Solids: sweep up (wet powders with water) and place in suitable containers for disposal. Liquids: absorb using an adequate absorbent (eg. kieselguhr, sand, saw dust, kieselgel), collect and place in suitable containers for disposal. Dispose of waste material in authorised incineration facility.

Handling and storage

Handling: observe the usual precautions for handling chemicals. If the substance is handled as powder, avoid inhalation of dust and wear dust mask. Use equipment for handling powders or other appropriate engineering controls. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Storage: the substance should be stored in well sealed and secure containers in adequate rooms at room temperature. Avoid dust residue outside thecontainers. Packaging of the substance and or preparation: 25 kg fiber drums.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Red GS 3848 is not a dangerous substance there are not specific Risk Management Measures to be implemented and it is not mandatory to communicate them by means of an MSDS. Nonetheless, the customer will be in any case recommended to follow common good practice with chemicals

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: none known. Chemical reaction with water: no dangerous reaction with water. Dust explosion: not to be expected if handled under good industrial hygiene practices. Dust explosion determined by test: N

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: normal application results in the consumption of approx. 99 % by irreversible binding to the textile fibres.Recovery for recycling of the remaining substance is not reasonably practicable. Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: the substance showed harmful acute effects to aquatic organisms. Therefore, a possible method of neutralisation of the hazardous effects is the following: waste water can be purified by membrane filtration or by floculation with cationic agents or by treatment with ozone. The most effective method is the membrane filtration: more than 99% of the remaining dyestuff can be removed from the waste water. Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: not suitable for deposit in landfill site. Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: discharge by incineration at high temperatures (>800°C) in a suitable facility with the equipment necessary to remove oxides of sulfur and nitrogen as well as metal derivatives. Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: it is estimated that 1 % of the total quantity used is discharged into internal industrial effluents as highly diluted solution. A purification of the waste water in a waste water treatment plant is recommended. The dyestuff should be used in a well equiped dye house. The waste water can be purified by membrane filtration or by floculation with cationic agents or by treatment with ozone. The most effective method is the membrane filtration: more than 99% of the remaining dyestuff can be removed from the waste water. Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: none. Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: not applicable. Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: not applicable. Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: not applicable. Public at large - Possibility of destruction - incineration: not applicable. Public at large - Possibility of destruction - water purification: not applicable. Public at large - Possibility of destruction - others: not applicable.
