Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Two studies investigating the explosive properties of the substance are available. Both were conducted under GLP conditions and in accordance with a standardised guideline; both studies were therefore assigned a reliability score of 1 in line with the criteria of Klimisch et al. (1997). The findings from both studies were considered together, following a weight of evidence approach.

In the study, reported by Macdonald et al. (1985), the explosive properties of the test material were investigated in accordance with the standardised guideline EU Method A.14. Under the conditions of the study, the test material was found not to possess explosive properties.

In the study, reported by Nelson (2006), the explosive properties of the test material were investigated in a study which was conducted under GLP conditions and in accordance with the standardised guideline EPA OPPTS 830.6316 using differential scanning calorimetry and a drop weight impact tester.

A plot of the DSC showed an exothermic event occurring at approximately 371 °C with a heat energy of 157 J/g, indicating that the test material is not potentially explosive upon heating. The test material was not impact sensitive.

Findings from both studies indicate that the substance is non-explosive.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to explosivity.

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex VI, Directive 67/548/EEC (DSD), the substance does not require classification with respect to explosivity.
