Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

There are no reliable data describing the long-term toxicity of the registered substance to invertebrates. However, testing to determine short-term toxicity of the registered substance to fish is not considered appropriate on the grounds that:
- short-term toxicity of the substance to aquatic invertebrates is low,
- both citric acid and iron are physiologically important for invertebrates,
- any effects of ammonia can be assessed on the basis of extensive existing information on its hazards to aquatic organisms.

A 10-week EC10 value of 3.12 mg/l has been reported in the online disseminated dossier for ammonium sulfate (CAS: 7783 -20 -2) for effects on reproduction in Hyallela azteca. The value is adjusted to pH 8 and 25°C and is equivalent to a NOEC 0.004 mg un-ionized NH3/l.

There are no long-term effects studies with citric acid, however the substance is not expected to be toxic.
