EC number: 213-651-2
CAS number: 998-40-3
Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Obtain medical attention immediately.
Remove contaminated clothing and shoes without delay. Wear impermeable gloves. Wash immediately with plenty of water. Pay particular attention to skin crevices, nail folds, etc. Do not reuse contaminated clothing without laundering. Do not reuse contaminated leatherware. Obtain medical attention.
Induce vomiting by administration of ipecacuanha or mechanical stimulation of back of throat. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Remove to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Obtain medical advice if there are persistent symptoms.
SUITABLE EXTINGUISHING MEDIA
The most effective fire extinguishing agent is AFFF Foam. Use dry chemical powder pressurised with nitrogen. Use sand or carbon dioxide as an alternative extinguishing media; however, re-ignition of material is likely.
SPECIAL HAZARDS ARSING FROM THE SUBSTANCE
Immediate action should be taken to confine the fire. If fire cannot be controlled with extinguishing agent, keep a safe distance, protect adjacent property and allow the product to burn until consumed. Human exposure should be prevented and nonessential personnel evacuated from the immediate area. Breathing vapours from this material or its combustion products should be avoided by using proper respiratory equipment.
ADVICE FOR FIREFIGHTERS
Use approved air-supplied full face respirator.
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS, PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
Where exposure level is not known, wear approved, positive pressure, self-contained respirator. Where exposure level is known, wear approved respirator suitable for level of exposure. In addition to protective clothing/equipment, wear impermeable boots.
Use appropriate containment to avoid environmental contamination.
METHODS AND MATERIAL FOR CONTAINMENT AND CLEANING UP
Block off source of spill, extinguish fire with appropriate extinguishing agent. Re-ignition may occur. If fire cannot be controlled with extinguishing agent, keep a safe distance, protect adjacent property and allow product to burn until consumed. Remove sources of ignition. Do not contact spill with paper cloth or vermiculite as spontaneous ignition will occur. Cover spill with an inert absorbent clay (such as cat litter or similar material) and place in a sealable container, sized such that free air volume is minimised. Seal under inert gas.
Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Handle in atmosphere of inert gas such as nitrogen. Vapour has offensive odour. Do not breathe gas or vapour. Do not get in eyes, on skin or on clothing. Keep container closed. Use with adequate ventilation. Wash thoroughly after handling. Keep cylinder out of sun and away from heat.
SPECIAL HANDLING STATEMENTS
Exposure to air and other oxidising material must be avoided. This material is a strong reducing agent. May react with combustible substances creating fire or explosion hazard.
CONDITIONS FOR SAFE STORAGE, INCLUDING ANY INCOMPATIBILITIES
Areas containing this material should have fire safe practices and electrical equipment in accordance with applicable regulations and/or guidelines. Standards are primarily based on the material`s flashpoint, but may also take into account properties such as miscibility with water or toxicity. All local and national regulations should be followed.
1. TECHNICAL PROTECTION MEASURES
No values have been established
2. ORGANISATIONAL PROTECTION MEASURES
Use only in sealed systems
3. HAND PROTECTION
Nitrile or fluorinated rubber gloves. Consider the porosity and elasticity data of the glove manufacturer and the specific conditions in the work place. Replace gloves immediately when torn or any change in appearance (dimension, colour, flexibility etc.) is noticed.
4. FEET PROTECTION
No specific advice
5. BODY PROTECTION
Prevent contamination of skin or clothing when removing protective equipment. Wear impermeable gloves and suitable protective clothing.
6. EYE PROTECTION
Prevent eye and skin contact. Provide eye wash fountain and safety shower in close proximity to points of potential exposure. Wear eye/face protection such as chemical splash proof goggles or face shield.
7. RESPIRATORY PROTECTION
Where exposures are below the established exposure limit, no respiratory protection is required. Where exposures exceed the established exposure limit, use respiratory protection recommended for the material and level of exposure.
Food, beverages, and tobacco products should not be carried, stored, or consumed where this material is in use.
Before eating, drinking, or smoking, wash face and hands thoroughly with soap and water.
- Stability: Stable
- Conditions to avoid: Avoid contact with strong oxidisers, flammable and combustible materials. May react violently with Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO).
POSSIBILITY OF HAZARDOUS REACTIONS
- Polymerisation: Will not occur.
- Conditions to avoid: None known.
- Incompatible materials: Flammable and combustible materials. Dimethylsulfoxide. Avoid contact with air and other oxidising agents.
- Hazardous decomposition products: Carbon dioxide, Carbon monoxide (CO), Oxides of phosphorus and phosphoric acid.
Recycling and recovery and reuse of materials are encouraged, where permitted. If disposal is necessary, organic materials, especially when classified as hazardous waste, should be disposed of by thermal treatment or incineration at approved facilities. All local and national regulations should be followed.
