Not readily biodegradable, (OECD 301B), Baldwin (2002)
The ready biodegradability of the test material was determined in a
study conducted in accordance with the standardised guideline OECD 301 B
under GLP conditions. The study was assigned a reliability score of 1 in
accordance with the criteria for assessing data quality as defined in
Klimisch et al. (1997).
The test was carried out in an aerobic, aqueous medium. The extent of
biodegradation was determined by monitoring cumulative CO₂ production
over 28 days for a mineralised inoculum of microbes in the presence of
the test and reference materials. The evolution of CO₂
was measured in a respirometric test using CO₂ traps.
The data were used to calculate the percent biodegradability of the test
and reference materials based upon their cumulative CO₂ production as a
percent of theoretical CO₂ production.
Under the conditions of the test, the test material was found not to be
readily biodegradable, achieving an average of 20.3 ± 10.5 % by day 29.
The control vessels demonstrated that the test system was functioning
correctly and that the test material was not toxic to the test inoculum.
