Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
< -81 °C

The freezing temperature is defined as the temperature at which the phase transition from liquid to solid state takes place at normal atmospheric pressure. This temperature ideally corresponds to the solidification or freezing temperature.

The table below summaries the temperatures and the visual observations during the preliminary screening test:

Temperature range during storage [°C]

Test substance appearance after 1 hour  Test substance appearance after an additional 1 hour period

 4.1 to 5.1

Clear colourless liquid   Clear colourless liquid
-26.0 to -24.3  Clear colourless liquid   Clear colourless liquid
-82.6 to -81.4 Clear colourless liquid   Clear colourless liquid
Conclusions:
The freezing temperature for 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl ether was determined to be < -81°C
Executive summary:

An experiment was carried out to determine the freezing point of 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl ether. Three test tubes were filled with 5mL of the test substance and stored at temperatures of 4.1/ 5.1°C, -26.0/ -24.3°C

and -82.6/ -81.4°C respectively. After storage for 2 hours at these temperatures, 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl ether remained a clear, colourless liquid with no indication of solidification or the freezing process. The freezing temperature of 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl ether was therefore deemed to be <81°C and resultantly no main study was performed.
