Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Short-term toxicity to fish:

The acute toxicity of 3 -[(2 -hydroxyethyl)amino]propanol (CAS 19344 -29 -7) to fish was tested in a GLP-guideline study according to OECD 203 with Zebrafish (Danio rerio) as test organism. The 96 -h LC50 was determined to be > 21.5 - < 46.4 mg/L (nominal, analytically verified; BASF AG (1998); 17F0057/965014). Therefore, the substance is assessed to be acutely harmful to fish.

Long-term toxicity to fish:

No data available.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:

The acute toxicity to freshwater invertebrates was investigated in a GLP-test performed by BASF (1997) according to EU method C.2, using Daphnia magna as test species. In the static test the 48 -h EC50 was determined to be > 100 mg/l based on nominal test concentrations (analytically verified). The substance is concluded, to be with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates.

Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:

No data available.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and plants:

There are no reliable experimental data available. Therefore, the toxicity of the substance to algae was estimated using the QSAR model ECOSAR v1.11 of EPI Suite v4.11 (BASF SE, 2015). The substance is classified by ECOSAR as an aliphatic amine. The acute toxicity was calculated to be 425.4 mg/L (96 -h EC50). The chronic value is estimated to be 107.8 mg/L).

Based on the calculated data, the substance is concluded to be with high probability acutely not harmful to algae; in addition, chronic effects are not to be expected.

Toxicity to microorganisms:

The toxicity of 3-[(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]propanol to aquatic microorganisms was studied in an activated sludge respiration inhibition test according to OECD 209 and under the conditions of GLP. The test used activated sludge from an STP treating municipal sewage. After 180 minutes of exposure no significant effects were observed in alltest concentrations up to the highest level of 1000 mg/L. Therefore, the 180 -min EC10 was determined to be greater than 1000 mg/L (BASF SE, 2015; project no. 08G0086/15G118). Therefore, the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
