bioaccumulation in aquatic species: fish

the study does not need to be conducted because the substance has a low potential to cross biological membranes

Description of key information

According to Column 2 of REACH Annex IX of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, a study on bioaccumulation in aquatic species does not need to be conducted if the substance has low potential for bioaccumulation and/or a low potential to cross biological membranes. Hexagonal boron nitride is practically insoluble in water and organic solvents and does not contain intrinsically lipophilic functional groups, which would facilitate uptake across biological surfaces. Therefore bioaccumulation study can be excluded.
