Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The test item is produced in and later on supplied and used in form of an aqueous 15 - 20 % acetic acid solution. The substance has a sufficiently high solubility in water. The substance is stable at high temperatures, as before the dyeing process starts the liquid preparation of the test substance is diluted with, e.g., hot water / acidic acid to achieve the requested dyeing recipe.

The dyeing itself takes place at 96 to 105 °C at pH 3 to 4.5. The substance is also stable at neutral pH as can be seen in the UV/Vis Spectrum at different pH values. At basic pH >10 the chromophore precipitates, from which Basic Blue 159 methyl sulfate was formed by dissolving in acetic acid. It is hence considered scientifically unjustified to do an additional study for abiotic degradation of this substance.
