Flammability test (solid) was performed
according to the EU Method A.10 (EC 440/2008) and UN Method N1. First, a
safety test was performed. A small amount of the test item was heated on
a magnesia groove with a gas burner in order to derive safety
precautions. Sparks were observed. The test item dispersed. In the
preliminary screening test, the test item was heated with the flame of a
teclu burner. Sparks and whiz were observed during heating. The test
item dispersed. After contact with the flame of the burner, the flame
changed the colour into yellow-orange. No signs of ignition were
observed. Since ignition did not occur within two minutes, no
determination of burning rate was necessary.
According to the CLP Regulation (EC
1272/2008) powdered, granular or pasty substances or mixtures (except
powders of metals or metal alloys — see 126.96.36.199) shall be classified as
readily combustible solids when the time of burning of one or more of
the test runs, performed in accordance with the test method described in Part III, sub
section 33.2.1, of the UN
Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and
Criteria, is less than 45 seconds or the rate of burning is more than
No ignition was observed throughout
the course of the test. The substance is not classified as flammable.
