Available data and read-across show that the substance has no adverse effects on aquatic organisms. Further L-arginine-HCl has a low potential to absorb to organic material. Since L-arginine-HCl is readily biodegradable (its carbon backbone is mineralised rapidly in aerobic systems), has no potential of bioaccumulation beyond natural homeostatic concentrations, is not applied directly to soil and is not expected to be transferred indirectly to soil in significant quantity via disposal of STP sludges or aerial deposition, significant exposure of the terrestrial compartment to L-arginine-HCl is unlikely to occur. Therefore soil is not expected to be a compartment of concern. The risk to soil microorganisms is negligible. For this reason and in accordance with REACH Annex IX Section 9.4. column 2 this study does not need to be conducted.
